Ka Huna Massage and Bodywork is a style that was developed in Hawaii by Kahu Abraham Kawai’i, the Kahuna who developed this style of bodywork in the 80s. He came to visit and teach in Australia for the first time in March 1998, at the old Mount Warning Lodge. Then the ‘massage’ was just part of Ka Huna training, one of the modalities Kahu used to teach people Ka Huna perspectives.
Your body is a temple and Ka Huna Massage and Bodywork is a modality with ancient principles that teaches and allows you to experience it as such.
Ka Huna Bodywork is a passage that has ability to bring forth an awareness, (whether you are the recipient or facilitator) to broaden your understanding. It is a gateway that enables one to stretch your conceptual boundaries of body, mind and soul.
The principles alone completely embody what it is to BE who we are meant to BE.
Through the alignment of body movement, breath, heartbeat and intention, the Master skills achieved through connection with self in virtue of respect, dignity, humbleness, posture, sensitivity, is to say ‘yes’ to everything life offers. Through the experience of Ka Huna Massage and Bodywork one can learn and practice being in alignment, to express and have gratitude for what feels wholesome, vulnerable, unpleasant or traumatic. This brings the continuity of being present, clear and knowing all is Divine and perfect with you in your life and so it is.
Traditional Ka huna Massage and body work is a full body oil massage that is dynamic and flowing.
Like the ebb and flow of the ocean, the natural dance-like rhythm and the flow of breath in a massage session will lull you into deep relaxation and have a calming effect on the mind and emotions.
The massage is firm but gentle, and does no harm.
What makes Ka huna bodywork unique is the long, flowing massage strokes, the dynamic, music, and the dance-like rhythm of unity created between giver and receiver.
The flowing strokes run up and down the body from head to toe, and back again, including all the muscles and fascia as one integrated whole.
Focused breathwork is an integral part of Kahuna Massage.
Deep tissue release work is incorporated into the flowing massage, when it is appropriate, or as specific treatment, to release deeply entrenched muscle and energy blocks, often releasing emotions.
Joint rotations and skeletal movement is used to release muscle and fascia tension, to oil the joints and release blocked energy often held in the joints.
Skeletal work and bone washing is also used to release stagnation at a deeper level, and to increase circulation and flow to blocked areas in the body.
Body work includes varying degrees in application of the above and is used accordingly throughout a session. Every session is a different experience. I meet you where you are at, every time you come for a treatment.
Traditionally for a Kahuna oil massage, a cloth (sarong) is used as a modesty covering over the pubic and buttocks areas at all times during the session, while I work with long flowing strokes over the rest of the body. Working on the front of the body, the chest/breast area and belly are usually included as part of the integrative approach, treating the body as whole.
